CHELMSFORD MUSEUMS EVENT
SATURDAY 18 FEBRUARY to SUNDAY 01 APRIL
EXHIBITION - SPORTING HEROS
A touring exhibition in the build up to the Olympic and Paraympic Games celebrates the East of England's
men, women and teams whose success continues to inspire new generations of sporting heros.
The exhibition includes hands-on interactives and sound posts with Graham Gooch (Essex winning the 1991
cricket championship) and Sally Gunnell winning gold in 1992. We highlight Chelmsford's own sporting
heros.

THE SECOND SPRING TALK - THE GIBBERD GARDEN by Ken from the Garden Trust
In 1946 Sir Frederick Gibbard was appointed master-planner for Harlow New Town and his original plan for the
town is regarded by many as his greatest achievement. Sir Frederick lived in Harlow from 1956 until his death
in 1984.
During the latter years of his life he and the late Lady Gibberd developed the garden and installed many works
of sculpture and pots of architectural design. The Garden occupies some seven acres and is sited on the
side of a small valley which slopes down to the Pincey Brook.
The talk will be in the Museum and will start at 2.30. Refreshments will be served from 2.00pm.
The cost of the talk will be £4.50 for members and £5.00 for non-members.

THE THIRD SPRING TALK - THE ESSEX BIODIVERSITY PROJECT by Steve Plumb
The Essex Biodiversity Project is an informal partnership of more than 40 organisations and individuals
committed to preserving and enhancing biodiversity in Essex. Our garden spaces are just as important to
wildlife as our Nature Reserves and open countryside. Essex has some of the rarest species of wildlife in the
country. Even in such a busy county, the threat of land being used for building developments and foreign
invasive species are the main threat to biodiversity in our region.
The talk will be in the Museum and will start at 2.30pm. Refreshments will be served from 2.00pm.
The cost of the talk will be £4.50 for members and £4.50 for non-members.
