THE FRIENDS OF CHELMSFORD MUSEUMS
The Friends of Chelmsford Museums is an association which was formed in 1990 to raise money and to support the various activities of Chelmsford Museums. It became a registered charity in 2004 and is a member of the British Association of Friends of Museums. The President of the Friends is Lord Petre, HM Lord Lieutenant of Essex.
The Friends raise money by organising social events, talks and visits to places of interest. Additional funds are raised by serving refreshments at some museum functions. These funds are used to assist in the purchase of artefacts and to improve the museum facilities.
The Friends help with special events and provide support to the museum staff. They assist in the care and development of the industrial collection at Sandford Mill and help to construct equipment used in the school's science education projects.
Members receive a quarterly newsletter which gives details of future events and contains items of general interest.
The Friends also exist to encourage interest in the history, natural history and arts of Chelmsford as shown in the museums.
